ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਿੰਘ ਸਭਾ ਹਾਊਨਸਲੋ

Gurdwara Chotta Ghallughara stands at Gurdaspur as a mark of respect for those who died for their faith. In April–June 1746 the Chotta Ghallughara took the lives of at least 10,000 Sikhs. About 15,000 unarmed civilians were pursued into the marshlands of Khanuwan — their only crime that they wanted to live and die as Sikhs.

Dear Sangat Jee
ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕਾ ਖਾਲਸਾ, ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕੀ ਫ਼ਤਿਹ! Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa; Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh!
This past month has been both spiritually enriching and community-focused for our Gurdwara.
We began with an enlightening lecture by Dr Asma Qadri on Japji Sahib on 29th March. Her insights helped deepen our understanding of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s timeless message and encouraged us all to reflect more deeply on our daily Nitnem.
This was followed by another thought-provoking session by Dr Hardial S Dhillon, who spoke on Sikh values and their universal relevance — reminding us how Sikhi continues to guide us in today’s world.
Our Vaisakhi celebrations were a true highlight of the month. The Gurdwara was filled with spirit and unity throughout a full day of programmes. The Nishan Sahib sewa brought the Sangat together in seva and chardi kala.
A particularly powerful moment was the Amrit Sanchar, where 13 individuals took this important step in their spiritual journey.
The celebrations continued beyond Vaisakhi day itself. On 19th April we hosted a Sikh Art Exhibition, and a 5km Women’s Health Run at Osterley Park.
We also extended the spirit of Vaisakhi beyond the walls of the Gurdwara. Through outreach at HMP Send and West Middlesex University Hospital, we shared langar, compassion, and the true essence of seva.
This has only been possible through the tireless efforts of our sewadars and the continued support of the Sangat. Together, we are not only preserving our traditions but actively living them.
Thank you all for your dedication and commitment.
ਜਾਇਦਾਦ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਜੈਕਟ
Our online meeting with the DfE regarding the adjoining land (209–213 Hanworth Road) was transparent — all works on the site have been paused. They are consulting with other government bodies before they consider discharging it. We have indicated our interest in the site, and in using it in the interim for parking.
Completion of the purchase of a neighbouring property (35 Hibernia Road) is imminent.
While the main kitchen operational issues are being dealt with, HVAC work has now commenced, to be completed before the end of May.

2026 Hemkunt Symposium
Our 32 Panjabi School children took part in the Hemkunt Speech Competition on Saturday 7 March. The symposium is conducted worldwide. It helps children learn about Sikh history, culture and philosophy — and, more importantly, to gain confidence in public speaking.
Children are grouped by age. This year’s research topics ranged from Guru Nanak (ages 6–8) through to the concept of reincarnation (18+). They are expected to relate their learning to day-to-day living, not just recite historic facts.
The zonal competition was held at our Gurdwara on 28 March. The president of Pingalwara, Jagraj Singh Sran, came to listen to Group 3 and present certificates and medals. One of our students, Sehaj Kaur from Group 1, will represent the Gurdwara at the international stage in Orange County, California.
Who is a Sikh
A simple response may be that a Sikh is a learner or disciple. The question is posed to the Panth, to elicit the qualities expected of someone living within the faith and Waheguru’s hukam.
The answer lies in Guru Granth Sahib Ji, from the pen of Guru Ramdas Ji, at Ang 305:
One who calls himself a Sikh of the True Guru rises in the early morning hours and meditates on Waheguru’s Naam. Upon arising, he bathes, and cleanses himself in the pool of nectar.
Following the Instructions of the Guru, he chants the Name of Waheguru. In this way, all his sins, misdeeds and negativity are erased.
Nanak begs for the dust of the feet of that Gursikh, who himself chants the Naam, and inspires others to chant it.
